Recollect Healing Priest Visits Olongapo

Olongapo Parish Priest Pol Lezada
OLONGAPO CITY. Over a thousand parishioners attended the Recollect priest Fr. Ferdinand Hernando OAR’s healing rites at Olongapo City today. This figure is the estimate of the parish priest Fr Pol Lezada of Saint Columban parish in this city.

It is the second day of the 40-day St. Ezekiel Moreno nationwide caravan that kicked off Monday at the national shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Antipolo City. Prior Provincial Fr. Lauro Larlar and Fr. Corvin Maturan concelebrated with the healing priest at the age-old Marian shrine.

Iba Bishop Florentino Lavarias joined Fr. Hernando in the afternoon eucharistic sacrifice with three Columban missionaries, two Recollect priests and nineteen diocesan parish priests of the Zambales diocese.

The aim of the healing ministry is not to avoid death nor to prolong life but to attain conversion and holiness of life,” Fr. Hernando emphasized in this homily.

A brief video-presentation titled “Biyaheng Recoletos” followed the mass. It detailed the rich history and legacy of culture of the Augustinian Recollect Order which is celebrating the 400 years of their arrival in our country.

Slain By The Spirit
Hundreds of parishioners lined up for the healing rites that lasted two hours. Everyone was amazed to witness how believers were “slain by the Holy Spirit.” “We are lucky at Saint Columban to be visited by the pilgrim image of St. Ezekiel Moreno,” said a young parishioner. St Ezekiel was a Spanish priest who served in Palawan, Mindoro, Batangas, Manila and Cavite in the 19th century.

The core group of the St. Ezekiel Moreno Caravan is led by Fr. Hernando, Sonia Roco, widow of Senator Raul Roco, Historian Emmanuel Luis Romanillos, Fr. Reynaldo Jaranilla OAR and Rev. Ian Espartero OAR. A support staff of Recollect seminarians and lay persons completes the group that also visits ailing persons in hospitals.

The Spirit Blows Where it Wills
The organizing committee for the Bataan-Zambales-Pangasinan sojourn is Oscar Orbos of Pangasinan and his wife Rose who hails from Bataan. Balanga City Mayor Melanio Banzon welcomed the caravan at the Bataan Boundary.

In the coming days, the healing caravan visits Alaminos, Lingayen, Baguio, La Union, Vigan, Laoag, Tuguegarao, Banawe, Nueva Vizcaya, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite and other provinces in Luzon. On the third week the core group will travel to key cities in the Visayas and Mindanao. It is expected to reach General Santos City on June 8 when the core group will fly back to Manila the next day.
